Dance: Pinga choreography
Pinga, a famous song from the movie Bajirao Mastani, sung by Shreya Ghosal is a very energetic song. The music has a lot of beats and is a classic song for dance. For this song we decided to choreograph on our own. It was initially difficult to get a hang of the dance style Kathak and add a little flavor of lavani dance style.
We began with watching a few dance videos on YouTube and learning Lavani. Lavani was an alien dance style to us. Lavani is a combination of traditional song and dance, which is particularly performed to the beats of Dholki, a percussion instrument. Since Pinga is based a Maharastrian folk song, we thought of adding a lanavi flavor to it.
After watching several videos, we started choreographing the dance. The first 40 secs were choreographed easily, steps came to our mind in a flow. The chorus was the problem. We wanted a different and energetic step. It took us almost a month to finish choreographing this song, post which we started perfecting the song and synchronizing it with the beats.
