Rajasthan Diaries: Hawa Mahal
On the 26th, I hopped onto an Ola cab and flee with my aunt to see........THE HAWA MAHAL aka "palace of the winds'. Being one of the most prominent tourist attraction, Hawa Mahal is located in the heart of the city and was built in 1799 by Maharaj Sawaj Pratap Singh of Kachhwaha Rajput dynasty. With one of the largest smile pulled on my cheeks and curious eyes, I started exploring the Mahal. The entry fee is Rs. 55 for an Indian tourist and only Rs.5 for an Indian student but do not forget to get your school ID card to get the discount. Luckily I carried my identification card with me.
Basically, there are tiny noticeboards placed around the palace with numbers on it. So like dot-a-dot painting, you follow the numbers, take nice pictures and enjoy the breeze. Talking about the architecture which is akin to a beehive enabling free air circulation into the building. The first two storeys of the five storey building consists of large courtyards while the top three storey have thickness of single rooms. The highlight here is the fact that there are no stairs in the building, only slopes which is pretty interesting, however, I do not know why.![]() |
