HMUN Journal 3:

Our agenda for today was 2 committee session and one HMUN leadership program. In the committee session we discussed about the territorial claims, bio prospecting, gender inequalities and militarization in Antarctica. The debate was getting intense as blocs were being formed. The basis of the blocs were predominantly based on whether the territorial claims should be considered after the end of the treaty or not and being the delegate of Belgium I had to look at the blocs from the environmental point of view.

We also had quite a few unmoderated caucuses during which each bloc came up with their working papers. This was challenging as everybody around was really smart and experienced. They knew how to sugar coat words and carry you away. They were strong in lobbying and debating. They knew how to catch your attention with their voice modulation and body language. Also many of them had statistical data to make excellent arguments.

During the leadership program, speakers like Vikas swarup and and vice president of coco cola were invited. Vikas Swarup is an Indian writer and diplomat who is currently serving as the official spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs of India. He is best known as the author of the novel Q & A, adapted in film as Slumdog Millionaire. His speech was very motivational and touching. He spoke of that success is and about his books. Later in the evening, we had the talent night which blew my mind. Magic shows, dances, singing and slam poems were performed which left us speechless.
