Rajasthan Diaries: Heading to Bikaner
I was born in Bikaner but I go there once in two years. It takes three days to go by train from Coimbatore (where I live right now) to Bikaner (the place I like to call home) but fortunately Bikaner started its airport a few years ago. Now stay with me because I am going to tell you what is really special about this place and it's pretty messed up. So my great grandfather had four sons and two daughters who each have on an average four children, mostly one son and the rest are daughters, who each then have two kids on an average. All of these people stay on the same street in four houses, each for one grand dad. On top of this, my great granddad had 6 brothers who again have a similar family line and they live in following streets in the same area. Can you imagine how huge the family is and how everybody is still so connected with each other despite the lack of social media. Furthermore, you'll find kids of every age group and adults too living in the same house. Four generations in one house. Mind. Blown. Every evening there is a game of cards or carom or some outdoor local games. Kids run around, moms scream at the kids, the TV volume is at its maximum and ladies chat at the top of their voice, this is how a typical evening goes. Most of the time, everyone gathers around the TV and watch daily soap together while blocking each others view on purpose. You don't get a minute alone to think of anything. You don't get a minute of silence and peace. All you get is a bunch of emotions which are always the happy ones. The point is, joint family systems help fight mental disorders and keep you mentally fit. You have so many people to trust and look forward to, so many people to keep you occupied with laughter and drama and so many people to hold you when you fall. There has been a lot of study on the Hindu joint family system and the success of family business by many foreign universities and every study comes to same conclusion, big families is always good. Of course there are disadvantage of a huge family but the advantages outweigh the disadvantages. Anyway, I got to run and prepare for Holi. See you later, bye bye.
