Vedio call to Sweden

Margerita Rosenquist, an English teacher in Sweden and a friend of mine, and I had decided to have a video call with her students in English to interact and have an inter-cultural exchange program. As English is a foreign language in Sweden, the students there do not get to communicate in English often. So as a part of the lesson, we talk to the students there through video calls and exchange ideas, cultures and knowledge in English. There are around 25 Swedish students, of Grade 9, volunteering in this activity.

Ten minutes prior to the call we jotted down the questions we would want to ask and discussed on how we go bout it. We then introduced ourselves and started on conversing on various topics for instance their music taste, their hobbies, how English as a global language has affected their culture, lifestyle and society. They asked us various questions ranging from our school lifestyle and how marriages and relationships occur in India and how we dress up for school, importance of our uniforms. We also discussed the different festivals being celebrated in Sweden and their purposes.

This did not only help in developing our communication skills but also helped us know and understand the differences between the cultures. This also helped us accept and appreciate inter-cultural values, hence we became balanced as an individual. It adhered to broaden our views about the different societies and made us open-minded.
